 Railway Station Project

During the spring of 2010 we outlined Barmouth Railway Station as a place that needed our touch.  Although the Station is kept clean and tidy by Max Heron, who does a brilliant job all year round, we felt that it need sprucing up and a complete make over to give it that extra lift.

Ideas were formed and plans were made to complete a 4 stage rejuvination of this area over the next few years.

First we planted many flowers in tubs on the Station to give it colour and look pleasing to the eye.  This was done using a variety of plants and cordylines and really added to the feel of the place.  Hanging baskets were also added on the mountian side of the Station and weeding was done.

The existing benches were painted black and the the fence around the station was painted with the kind help of Tim Brown and his team.

The next stage was the adding of the information boards.  These are unique to us as they were designed by Valerie and Kevin from the Oriel Shop in the town.  They capture views from around the town, and of our previous projects, and we would like to say a personal thank you for all their help in producing such wonderful and impressive pictures.

Next we hope to add 4 more benches, extra bins, and more pots and plants. A grant application has been made and we hope to hear from them very soon.

Finally we aim to lengthen the Station by making use of the extra area on the platform.  We have many options on this but will decide once the other stages have been completed.  Added to this will be of course more plants etc.

We have also had several meetings with the very helpful Station Master at Machynlleth, David Crunkhorn, who has supported us and guided us during this project and we thank him for his kind assistance and advice.

He has also mentioned that Network Rail have plans to paint the canopy on the Station and we look forward to that happening soon as it will add to the fantastic work we have already done.

Over 800,000 people passed through our station last year, making it the second busiest station after Machynlleth on the Cambrian Coast Line.

We hope that the next 800,000 people will see the and appreciate the work we have done on the Railway Station so far, and continued improvements, and will want to visit our wonderful town on their next trip to enjoy the special surroundings and unique atmosphere that Barmouth has to offer.
